Children of Bodom

Track: Touch Like an Angel of Death
Artist: Children of Bodom
Album: Something Wild
Genre: Blackened Power Metal? Melodic Black Metal?
Sounds Like: Norther, Kalmah, Wintersun, Imperanon

Their only album I still listen to on a semi-regular basis. I used to be all about the old Children of Bodom. Guarantied, I was 13, but it deserves a spot here nonetheless.

Joy Division

NOT METAL

Track: Disorder
Artist: Joy Division
Album: Unknown Pleasures
Genre: Post-Punk/New Wave
Sounds Like: New Order, The Cure, Echo and The Bunnymen, Bethlehem...

--> Album Download Link: http://www.mediafire.com/?zd3w5nkmzmy

Love it or hate it. Hate it, probably. I think Bethlehem sounds a lot like Joy Division, especially the bass-work.

Todeskult

Track: Foreboding Suicide
Artist: Todeskult
Album: Als Die Farben Älter Wurden
Genre: Depressive Black Metal
Sounds Like: Silencer, Burzum, Sterbend, Nyktalgia

Depressive black metal that isn't simply regurgitated Burzum, like the majority of the artists operating within the genre. Maniacal shrieks and catchy guitar riffs. Get.

Moonsorrow

Track: Pimea
Artist: Moonsorrow
Album: Verisakeet
Genre: Atmospheric Folk/Black Metal
Sounds Like: Finntroll, Windir, Falkenbach

--> Album Download Link: http://www.mediafire.com/?jyydttit42m
Epic sounding, triumphant-as-fuck viking metal. Top notch shrieks, catchy black metal riffs, keyboards that manage not to ruin everything, and well placed drum patterns and bass solos. Excellent, if you don't mind lengthy tracks.

Silencer

Track:
Sterile Nails and Thunderbowels
Artist: Silencer
Album: Death - Pierce Me
Genre: Depressive Black Metal
Sounds Like: Bethlehem, Sterbend, Todeskult

One of my favourite black metal albums. Let it be known that enjoying this album will be roughly 90% contingent on enjoying this specific brand of vocals. The band has quite an interesting back-story, to say the least. Vocalist and lyricist, 'Nattramn', apparently recorded the vocals on this album while mutilating his hands and arms...and has since remained institutionalized.

Krallice

Track: Energy Chasms
Artist: Krallice
Album: Krallice
Genre: Progressive/Atmospheric Black Metal
Sounds Like: Wolves in the Throne Room, Weakling, Skagos, Cobalt

"People call this hipster metal because it's a bunch of beardy prog guys borrowing black metal techniques with an obnoxious ironic smirk." ~ Quote from last.fm. Beards? Black metal? Irony? I'm in.

Pig Destroyer

Track: Scatology Homework
Artist: Pig Destroyer
Album: Prowler in the Yard
Genre: Grindcore
Sounds Like: Brutal Truth, Agoraphobic Nosebleed, Phobia

Pig Destroyer brings the grind, pretty much.

Bethlehem

Track: Durch Befleckte Berührung Meiner Nemesis
Artist: Bethlehem
Album: Sardonischer Untergang im Zeichen irreligiöser Darbietung
Genre: Dark Metal (Black-Doom, pretty much.) It should be noted that I can't stand most Black-Doom bands.
Sounds Like: Silencer, Shining, Forgotten Tomb

If you were going to trust me about one band it would be Bethlehem. I like this album more than life itself, which I find ironic considering it's a concept album about suicide. It's dark and beautiful one moment, violently aggressive the next, but always retains the eeriest atmosphere I've ever heard in musical form. Like all people relatively interested in music, I find it impossible to name a favourite album, but I assure you that this album would be high (perhaps the highest)on my list. It receives the honor of being the first album I post, after all.

First post

Well, I used to have a tumblr for posting music, but fuck tumblr. It doesn't function very well as an archive, and I get distracted by all the attention-starved hipsters feeding of each other's attention-starved needs. So, I made this. I suppose I'll start by posting a couple of my favourite albums.
